Welcome to the first of our Yellowbrick Spotlight blog series, which highlights our company’s most important asset – our people.
Our Yellowbrick team members are some of the smartest data-minded people in tech – and they have a wide range of talents, interests, and hobbies outside of their job. In this series, our team will share their unique personalities, experiences, accomplishments, and successes that they bring to Yellowbrick every day.
Our first Q&A is with Bryson Boatwright, our Director of Sales Development. Bryson’s focus includes coaching and leading a team of young sales professionals. You can find him golfing or visiting a new restaurant and bar in his spare time.
Get to know Bryson in his own words below.
How long have you worked at Yellowbrick?
How would you describe what you do?
My team is responsible for forming new relationships with potential customers and helping build awareness of our product within large enterprise accounts. My role is focused on coaching and leading a team of young sales professionals to be exceptional product advocates and helping them build the skillsets that will mold them into Yellowbrick’s future leaders.
What do you love most about your job and/or working at Yellowbrick?
I love how big the opportunity is. To be one of only a few disruptors in the cloud space tackling a big problem. I also love the leadership team here because they give you true ownership within your department and trust you to get the job done.
What does a day in the life at Yellowbrick look like for you?
Most of my day is spent one on one with my team, helping them tactically accomplish their goals and coaching them through professional milestones. I also keep our SVP of Sales informed on our process for effective sales prospecting and pipeline building, while collaborating with other sales & marketing leaders to formulate campaigns that increase the awareness of Yellowbrick.
What did you do prior to joining Yellowbrick and how did you end up here?
I worked for a security company prior to Yellowbrick that sold off. I was looking for a company where I could own the entire Sales Development function, which Yellowbrick offered.
How have your unique experiences and insights made you successful in your career, and at Yellowbrick?
I thoroughly enjoy the environment of a tech startup. The phrase “the only constant is change” has been true at every startup I’ve been a part of. This being my 5th, I think I’ve become a more resilient leader. I’ve grown as a coach because of the startup experiences I’ve encountered and I’m able to pass those learnings on to my team.
What’s the most unique part about working for Yellowbrick?
I was hired as a remote employee, along with most of the colleagues I interact with, which has been a challenge. Despite the challenge, everyone at Yellowbrick is great at communicating, which makes the working environment that much easier to succeed in.
What’s your favorite Yellowbrick benefit?
The office shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s Day is a unique benefit. It’s a good time, in my opinion, to take a vacation and be able to enjoy the holidays with family and friends.
What advice do you have for someone starting their career?
Be vocal, work harder than you think you should, and find times to bond with your coworkers.
What song always puts you in a good mood?
Long Way Home (Gareth Emery).
What has been the proudest moment of your career?
I’m always proud when I can help a team member move up in their career.
What’s the best midday work snack?
Being remote, I definitely miss the office snacks. For me midday at home, it’s usually a smoothie or buffalo-flavored cashews.
When you’re not at work, what can we find you doing?
Either golfing or visiting a new restaurant and bar.
If you had a superpower, what would it be?
I’d be able to heal any disease within 30 seconds.
